Mema Joyce:
With all the talk about the drawbacks of using real eggs, I found one way around the problem. (It can be a little labor intensive, but it is paying off now.) Since my kids were babies, I bought wooden eggs and painted one egg for each of us in the family. The egg represented something that was important to them that past year. I used rubber stamps (and embossed) an image, but you can do it free hand if you want. Their names and the year are painted at the bottom.
We now have a little collection of eggs to display each year. Just like
Christmas ornaments, they look forward to unpacking them and deciding on what their eggs will show this year. When they get older and leave the "nest", each will have a wonderful basket to remember past Easters by.
Now that they are getting older, they may want to start to do their own
artwork -- as much as I hate to give up painting for them!!
Mema Joyce:
One little thing I do is create bunny tracks by taking my three fingers dipped in flour and place them on the deck outside, coming in the door and into the room. I gather up all the stuffed bunnies in the house (after the kids go to sleep) and put them all by the Easter baskets as if they all wanted to just say hi to the Easter Bunny. The bunny prints trail past all the stuffed friends, over to the plate of carrots and on to where the baskets are.
Mema Joyce:
Carrot Raisin Salad
1/4 cup raisins
1 cup grated carrots (about five small)
3 tablespoons nonfat yogurt
1 tablespoon light mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon orange juice concentrate
Dash of pepper
Toss together raisins and carrots in small bowl. Set aside. In another small bowl, combine yogurt, mayonnaise, cinnamon, pepper, and orange juice. Add to raisin and carrot mixture. Blend and chill. Make 1-1/2 cups.
These can be made by putting the following items in plastic eggs and open
them, one a day, beginning 12 days before Easter.
